Aggrenox

Aggrenox (Dipyridamole / Aspirin): Medical Information

Therapeutic Class: Cholesterol Care
Active Ingredients: The active ingredients in this medicine include aspirin and dipyridamole. It is a combination of medicine.
Drug Information: This medication, which is a blend of a low dose of aspirin and dipyridamole in a slow-release form, helps to prevent blood from clotting. By reducing the risk of stroke in patients who already had a transient ischemic attack (mini-attack), it helps them keep stroke and cardiovascular disease at bay.

Why is Aggrenox Dipyridamole / Aspirin prescribed?

When a patient is at high risk of stroke or already had one due to blood clot, having this medication can be a lifesaving move. This low-dose aspirin antiplatelet drug restricts the platelets from clumping together and keeps the blood flowing to the brain. Therefore, taking this prescribed medicine as a part of your daily regime prevents blood clots and certain type of stroke.

How to consume Aggrenox Dipyridamole / Aspirin?

Doctor assistance is very important prior to take this medication. This medication needs to be taken by mouth with or without food, usually twice a day. Never crush or chew the capsule, rather swallow the capsule whole. When the capsule is crushed, it releases the entire drug at once which increases the possibility of side effects.

Based on the medical condition, the doctor decides the medication of the patient. Take the prescribed medicine at the same time to reap its maximum benefit.

Please notify that this medication cannot be replaced by aspirin and dipyridamole taken separately. By taking it separately, you won’t be able to get the right slow-release dosage form.

What if I miss the dose of medicine?

You can take the missed dose immediately as you remember and continue on your regular medication schedule. There is no need to take the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Make sure that you don’t double the dose to catch up.
