Diovan

Diovan (Valsartan): Medical information

Therapeutic Class: High blood pressure(Hypertension): Diovan (Valsartan)
Active ingredients: The active ingredient found in Diovan is Valsartan.
Drug Information: Valsartan is sold under the brand name Diovan. It is a prescription medicine used to treat high blood pressure in adults and is not recommended for a person below 18 years of age.

Why is Diovan prescribed?

Diovan is once a day prescription tablet to control and lower mild to moderate high blood pressure and heart failure in adults. This medication belongs to the group of medicines known as “angiotensin receptor blockers” (ARBs). It works by releasing the pressure on the muscles that surround the blood vessels, thus relaxing blood vessels which makes blood flow easy and slows the heart rate. It also helps in blocking the chemical production in the kidney that causes high blood pressure. Hence, lowering blood pressure lowers the risk of stroke and heart attack.

How to take Diovan?

Diovan comes in the tablets of 40 mg, 80 mg, 160 mg, and 320 mg strengths. This medication is to be taken once daily preferably at the same time of the day. The doctor may start with a low dose and based on certain factors it can be increased such as age, medical condition, and other drugs you are taking. It can be taken with other high blood pressure medications after consulting the doctor. It is recommended to take Diovan on an empty stomach with water for better absorption and more effective results.

Is Premarin Generic available?

Yes. There is a generic equivalent version of Premarin available.

What are generics? Generics are equivalent to brand name drugs at lower prices.

What if I miss the dose of Diovan?

If you miss a dose try to take it as soon as possible unless it is close to the time to take your next dose. Do not double dose. Set a daily alarm to remind you of your medication time. Consult your health care provider in case of multiple missed doses for further instructions.
